Last June and July I spent a little time in and near Salt Lake City. My husband and I tried to do something fun and local each weekend. One trip we took was to Fifth Water hot springs. Kind of a last minute decision, so we didn't head out until it was already a bit late, and by the time we were back on the road it was just falling dark. Coming out of the mountains, I remember being struck by a vivid green sky with a storm brewing over the valley below. I put on my artist goggles and did my best to absorb what I saw without taking any immediate photos or references.
At home I made a quick sketch of the color palette and then months later, finally got around to painting up a scene. Flexing my creative freedoms a bit here and trying to stay as graphic as possible. I'd love to do more like this if I can ever manage to find the time.
